The Kolkata-class (Project 15A) destroyers are India's most powerful surface combatants, featuring an Israeli EL/M-2248 MF-STAR AESA multifunction radar and the formidable BrahMos supersonic cruise missile with a Mach 2.8 sea-skimming profile. Each ship carries 16 BrahMos missiles in angled launchers — the heaviest anti-ship missile loadout of any destroyer worldwide — giving a single Kolkata-class ship the firepower to neutralize an entire surface group. The Barak-8 LRSAM provides 70+ km air defense coverage. These three destroyers represent the Indian Navy's technological pinnacle and the foundation for the follow-on Visakhapatnam-class (Project 15B). India's destroyer capability demonstrates its growing blue-water naval ambitions as the dominant maritime power in the Indian Ocean region.
