The M142 HIMARS transformed Ukraine's battlefield in 2022, making it the most strategically significant individual weapon system of the conflict. Its GPS-guided GMLRS rockets achieve 5–10 meter accuracy at 84 km range β€” destroying Russian ammunition depots, command posts, and air defense systems at standoff distances beyond Russian artillery range. Ukraine's 20 HIMARS struck over 400 high-value targets in the first two months, collapsing Russian logistics in the south and enabling the Kharkiv counteroffensive that liberated 12,000 kmΒ² of territory in two weeks. Unlike the M270 MLRS it partially replaced, HIMARS carries one 6-rocket pod (vs M270's two) but on a wheeled truck chassis enabling 85 km/h highway speeds for rapid displacement. The PrSM (Precision Strike Missile) upgrade extends range to 500 km, reaching targets across all of Taiwan from mainland standoff positions.
