CAESAR 8×8
The CAESAR (CAmion Équipé d'un Système d'ARtillerie) is the world's most successful wheeled self-propelled howitzer, combining the firepower of a 155mm L52 cannon with the strategic mobility of a standard truck platform. Its shoot-and-scoot capability — firing and displacing in under 2 minutes — has proven crucial in Ukraine where Russian counter-battery radar and drone targeting makes static artillery positions lethal. The CAESAR 8×8 Mk2 upgraded the original 6×6 MAN truck to an 8×8 Sherpa chassis with improved protection, automated loading, and 30-round onboard ammunition versus 18 in the original. France has ordered 109 CAESAR 8×8 for the French Army. Ukraine's CAESAR systems have been among the most effective Western artillery donations, with Ukrainian crews citing the truck mobility and rapid displacement as key survival factors.
