The PzH 2000 is widely regarded as the world's most capable self-propelled howitzer, combining exceptional range, rate of fire, and crew protection. Its automated ammunition handling system enables the famous "MRSI" (Multiple Rounds Simultaneous Impact) capability β€” firing multiple rounds at different elevations so all shells arrive on target simultaneously, maximizing the destructive effect. The L52 barrel (8 meters long) achieves 56 km range with rocket-assisted projectiles, the longest range of any Western wheeled or tracked SPH. In Ukraine, PzH 2000s donated by Germany and the Netherlands achieved devastating counter-battery effects but required high maintenance due to intensive use. The barrel life of 3,000 rounds proved insufficient for Ukraine's operational tempo, requiring barrel replacements flown in from Germany.

COMBAT HISTORY

Afghanistan (2006–2010): Dutch PzH 2000s in Uruzgan β€” 5,500 rounds fired, demonstrated high reliability. Ukraine (2022–present): German and Dutch donations proved devastating in counter-battery roles; Russian forces specifically targeted PzH 2000s.
