FREMM-CLASS FRIGATE
The FREMM program is Europe's most successful modern warship program, a Franco-Italian multi-mission frigate with 20 vessels built across four navies: France (8), Italy (10), Morocco (1), and Egypt (1). The French ASW variant excels in submarine hunting with a towed sonar array and CAPTAS-4 active/passive sonar, while also carrying 16 MdCN naval cruise missiles for strategic land-attack — a capability demonstrated in the 2018 Syria strikes. The Italian general-purpose variant prioritizes anti-surface warfare with Teseo Mk2/E anti-ship missiles. The FREMM's CODLOG propulsion enables ultra-quiet electric-motor operation at low speeds for ASW missions. The US Navy's Constellation-class frigate is derived from the Italian FREMM design, validating the platform's excellence.
