The Z-10ME is China's primary attack helicopter, developed with technical assistance from Eurocopter in the early design phases before becoming a fully indigenous program. The tandem-seat, narrow-fuselage design follows Western attack helicopter philosophy with chin-mounted targeting systems and stub wings for weapons carriage. The ME (Multi-role Enhanced) export variant added more powerful engines and updated avionics for high-altitude performance over the Tibetan Plateau and Himalayan borders. China operates over 280 Z-10s organized into army aviation brigades assigned to each Group Army. The helicopter would be central to any amphibious assault on Taiwan, providing close air support to landing forces. Its HJ-10 fire-and-forget missile has a claimed range of 10 km.
