The Mi-28NM is Russia's most capable attack helicopter, a significant modernization of the Mi-28N with upgraded avionics, new mast-mounted radar, and improved weapons integration. Unlike the Ka-52 with its coaxial rotor, the Mi-28 uses a conventional main/tail rotor configuration optimized for high-speed flight and weapons delivery accuracy. The NM variant adds night all-weather capabilities, digital cockpit displays, and compatibility with the Vikhr-1 laser-guided missile. Russian doctrine pairs Mi-28NMs with Ka-52s — the Ka-52's superior radar provides targeting data shared over datalink to Mi-28 strike packages.
